Groin ligaments or lymph node?

I went to my gyn yesterday. I have felt a small pea size lump in my groin for awhile now. I was positive it was a lymph node. Well, he examined the area and said what I am feeling is ligaments. I still feel unsure though. Is it normal for ligaments in the groin to feel like a little ball? I thought ligaments felt like a smooth string.
